Blog Journal #3

Copyright and fair use are important for educators to understand. These two principles usually go hand in hand and provide educators a way to ensure they are using another person's thoughts or ideas in the proper way. Copyright is defined as protection for a person's intellectual property and that person has the right to distribute their work how they wish and regulate how others share their work as well. Fair use is the way that others are allowed to use copyrighted work. Fair use only allows use of a work if they're not using it for a profit and its for educational reasons. In an educational space, this would mean that I would have to adapt lesson plans to be my own creative work and I should teach younger children that they need to give credit to those that originally created the work, and teach older children how to protect their own works.

Decreased productivity is a technology implementation issue that may arise with my students. The way that I would prevent this would be to expect my students to close their laptops/tablets or put them away when we are not using them. Another issue that could arise is academic dishonesty. By presenting students with a lesson on academic dishonesty and explaining the consequences of not following the rules of academic honesty, I can hold them to a specific standard and prevent the use of GroupMe, Quizlet, and cheating. I would also like to note that I will not make a test online that is not open note, as students will most likely take it open note and would not be honest about it regardless, which would defeat the point of test-taking.

The Newsletter Design Project was so fun to complete and I feel like I'm much more prepared to use technology creatively. In the future, I would like to use more organization to make it look less cramped, however, I still am really proud of the way it turned out! I would be able to use these skills in virtually any field I go into, as the skills I used from Word are valuable and necessary. I want to learn how to use columns better, as I currently have not completely mastered it.

  1. Hi Carley, you did a great job on this blog post. Your paragraph on copyright was extremely informative and well written. I agree with you the newsletter assignment was super fun and definitely will help me with future online projects. One thing I would change is you curriculum section is very long maybe break it up into two different sections to gather the readers attention. Other than that great blog post and super cute newsletter!
